Frequently asked questions

What do I get for $599?
A CSV with one row for every permit we match to your company, plus a short PDF summary. Each row has the job address, permit date, permit number, work type, the job value when the building department recorded one, and the name or license number it matched.
How do you find my permits?
We search public building permit records for your company’s legal name, DBAs, and license numbers. License numbers are the most reliable match, because names on permits are often abbreviated or misspelled. Send every one you’ve used, including old ones.
Will it include every job we’ve done?
No. It covers permitted work, in places that publish permit records, filed under the names and license numbers you send. Repairs and service calls usually don’t need a permit, so they won’t be in it.
Isn’t this already in my own software?
Recent jobs may be. Most field-service software only goes back as far as you’ve used it, so jobs from before that, from a company you bought, or under an old DBA are often missing. The permits are still on file.
What if you can’t find any permits?
We refund the full $599.
How fast is delivery?
Usually 2–5 business days after payment. We email the files to the address on your order.
How far back do the records go?
In most places, back to at least 2010, and often further. Some building departments never put older records online, so those years won’t appear.
Where does the data come from?
Building permits issued by city and county building departments. Permits are public records.
Does the report include homeowner names or phone numbers?
No. It lists the permit details: address, dates, permit number, work type, and job value. The addresses work for mailers and door hangers, or you can match them to your own customer records.
Can I use the addresses for marketing?
Yes. You can use the report in your own business, for example for mailers to past job addresses, and share it with a buyer, lender, or advisor working with your company. You can’t resell it.
Is the job value always filled in?
No. Some building departments record a value on every permit and some never do. When the record has no value, the cell is blank.
Is there a minimum number of rows?
No. The count depends on how much permitted work you’ve done, where you did it, and what those building departments publish.
Which areas do you cover?
Every order is a nationwide search. What we find depends on which building departments publish permit records and on the names and license numbers you send.
Why not search the city’s permit site myself?
You can. But each building department has its own site, its own search rules, and often no export. If you’ve worked in 15 cities over 12 years, that’s a lot of searching and copying. We do it in one pass and send one file.
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $599 once for one report on one company.
Can I order a report on another company?
Only if you’re authorized to request it for that company. You’re responsible for how the report is used.
What do you do with my order details?
We use them to find your permits, deliver the report, take payment through Stripe, and contact you about the order. We keep the delivered report unless you ask us to delete it. See the privacy policy.
